Common AC Issues
Not Enough Air Flow
A prevalent issue that pops up with air conditioners is inadequate airflow, which means you won’t feel much air coming through your vents at all. If when you hold your hand in front of your vent, you can’t sense much of anything, there is a good chance something is compromising your airflow.
A few different things can cause issues with airflow. Reduced airflow could be a sign that the air compressor isn’t working as it should. When the air compressor is on its way out, some rooms in the home will be cool, while others will stay warm.
Your airflow problem could also be a sign that the ductwork in your home is old and is due for a replacement. Poor ductwork is a much more pressing problem that will require an extensive repair. Luckily, our experienced team of technicians can also service, replace or clean your ducts if they need it.
Obstructed vents can also cause issues with air flow. This simply means that objects are blocking the air from coming out of your vents and is the best-case scenario because it suggests that nothing is mechanically or physically wrong with your air conditioning unit.
Lack of Cool Air
If you can feel air coming out of your vents, but it feels warm or not as cold as you would like it, you could have an air conditioning problem. The first thing you should do is turn your thermostat down as low as it will go to see if it fixes the issue. If it does, the problem could be with the thermostat, rather than the air conditioner.
When the thermostat isn’t the problem, our technicians will come up with another solution to the issue. Not having cold air coming through the vents is another sign of a broken compressor. When the compressor doesn’t blow air through the vents, the unit as a whole won’t work at 100% capacity.
Your unit might also be low on Freon, which is part of the chemical reaction that cools the air inside of your air conditioner. No matter what is preventing the air from cooling, Hunt’s Services is here to assist you throughout the process and will get your unit up and operating again in no time at all.
Strange Noises
One of the most startling things that can go wrong with your air conditioning unit is when you start hearing strange sounds coming from it. The noises might be a grinding or squealing right from the system itself, which is cause for alarm. Even if the air conditioner seems to be functioning at the moment, these noises could be a sign that something is about to break and it’s always a good idea to be proactive about these matters.
When you hear a squealing noise coming from your air conditioner, it could also mean a belt inside of the unit has broken or become loose. This belt will need to be tightening or replaced before you can use your system again.
A grinding noise often means that one of the metal components inside the casing could use some additional lubrication or that one or more of the bearings on the motor has broken.
Either way, you’ll want one of our certified technicians to have a look because it’s better to have the issue repaired right away to avoid a service disruption in the heat of the summer.
Moisture Around the Unit
Moisture around your air conditioner is a very telling sign because it often means there is a leak or a block somewhere along the line in one of the components. Leakage is a serious issue because it could suggest refrigerant is pooling near the unit. Refrigerant can be harmful if touched, so you’ll want to have it fixed in a hurry.
A blocked or broken drain tube could also cause a buildup of moisture around your air conditioner. Condensation forms when the air conditioner is running, and there is a tube that carries this moisture away from the unit. When the hose is broken or blocked, the condensation has nowhere to go and sits beneath or around the system. While this issue isn’t significant at first, it could lead to mold forming if it isn’t repaired.
Increasing Energy Bills
Keep an eye on your energy bills because if they spike unexpectedly, it could mean there is something wrong with your air conditioner that should be repaired. An air conditioner that isn’t cooling efficiently will have to work harder to keep up with the demand and, therefore, will cost you more money.
In this situation, it makes a lot of sense to have Hunt’s Services take a look because not only will you see an immediate drop in what you’re spending on energy, but you could also save money on more significant repairs in the future.
